How to Plan a Stag Party
So you’re the best man and you get the big job of organizing the stag party. Now this is not just your regular get together with the guys. There is a lot of planning that goes into this night such as where to go, what to do, who to invite and more. This night has to top off all the other nights you all have spent with each other. Don’t be nervous, this is a how to guide to plan the best stag night ever:
Where to go?
- Picking the right place to go is very important. This will set the whole mood for the rest of the night. There are so many spots to choose from. You can have the event at the groom’s favorite pub, or decide to go out for a night on the town, or decided to pack up for a weekend and get away from your normal surroundings. It might even be a good idea to have the party someone’s house.
What kind of party is it going to be?
- It’s important to keep in mind that this night is about the groom and what HE will enjoy doing.
- You need to decide if this is going to be a simple stag night or will you be organizing some activities around your area, or will you plan to take the trip overseas.
Plan in advance.
- Time is everything, so make sure that you have a reasonable amount of time to do all of the things you have planned.
- It’s also a good idea to get the ball rolling on invites to make sure that everyone has enough time to plan to attend. It’s a great way to build up everyone’s anticipation as well.
- Usually the best man is in charge of planning the event, but in some cases he might not be able to be there or just might need help in general. Now is a great time to decide if that’s the case and to organize who will do what. Whether it is who will organize the activities, sort out transportation and accommodation if needed, collect money, or communicate with everyone necessary, get started EARLY!
The groom’s in for it!
- Let’s get real for a second, the groom definitely knows that he will be embarrassed or a little humiliated in one way or another, so it’s your job to make sure you don’t let him down.
- Some ideas: Get him to carry around a blow up doll; make him say cheesy pick up lines to random women while you are out; attach a ball and chain to him and make him wear it the whole night.
- You can also get advice from other mates invited; they’re bound to have some ideas.
When will the party be?
- It’s a really bad idea to have the stag party the night before the wedding. You don’t want half of the wedding party to come in smelling like a brewery and slugging around everywhere, especially the groom. So if the party is just going to be a get together it might be a good idea to have it a couple of days before the wedding.
- If you are heading on a trip with the boys, plan to have taken the trip a week before the wedding.
Who is going to be invited?
- There are a few things to consider if you are asked to take care of who to invite and there is a good chance you will be. You don’t have to worry about making these invitations fancy; they can just be a simple phone call or email.
- Be aware of everyone attending: Will they all get along? Does everyone drink? Will anyone feel left out? Does everyone enjoy doing the same thing? Will anyone have a problem with the budget? All of these questions must be answered while putting together the invite list.
- Sometimes you have to decide whether or not fathers will be attending. Yes, this also includes the F.O.B! It’s nice to invite them but the decision is theirs in the end.
How are the bills split?
- Typically if everyone is out, you can just split the tab. The groom’s tab should also be taken care of, so that it can get divided up between all of the staggers.
- You can even make a kitty, and have everyone thrown in a particular amount and anything over that they have to pay for themselves.
- In any matter, you need to make sure this is very clear to everyone attending to avoid and confusion or arguments at the end of the night.
Important Do’s and Don’ts
- Keep an eye on the groom! You don’t want anything to get too out of hand where he’ll wake up the next morning with a ton of regret.
- No ‘drunk dialing’! If the groom gets written off, whatever you do, don’t let him call his bride-to-be. It’s better if she doesn’t know what kind of state he is in at the time.
- Evidence! The stag party is going to be one of the nights for the books guys and EVERYTHING should be documented! Pictures are a must so don’t say cheese and smile!
