Garden Weddings: The Basics
Depending on the style of wedding and the size of your home or garden, there's a special warmth and uniqueness that can be derived from a home wedding.
A home or garden wedding can range from a more formal ceremony and catered affair to an informal ceremony and a do-it-yourself reception (with a little help from your friends). If your home isn't large enough, maybe some friends or relatives would offer the use of theirs.
If the ceremony is in the home, a nice entrance can be made by coming down a stairway, and then having the ceremony take place in front of a fireplace.
If in the garden, what about having the ceremony under a stately old tree or a decorated arch or gazebo? Whatever the focal point is, try to position it so the sun will not shine in the guests' eyes.
Depending on space, guests may be seated or may stand. If the latter is the case, don't make the ceremony too long. Also, when you're planning a ceremony outside, make sure the area can be tented or me ceremony moved inside in the event of bad weather.
If your home is not large enough, and you don't want to borrow a friend's or relatives, sometimes you can find private homes to rent through real-estate companies, wedding consultants or local newspapers. It may be possible to go through a company that finds locations for advertisements or television commercials. So check to see if your city has this kind of company.
